Reading

Reading is good, but growing up, it was never a priority. It was never a favorite hobby. It was just a chore; it was just tool to help do other things. I was one that liked active things, not slow boring things you have to read.

It took growing up, to appreciate reading. Now it has taken life slowing me down, putting the brakes on me to appreciate what I’ve simply taken for granted: reading. I’ve always just used reading for instructions, even then I just read enough to make whatever I was doing work. Read helps me know the most important thing in life, and that of course is my Savior: Jesus. And because of that, I study God’s word in the most basic, most wonderful way, I read it.

If we take the time just to read the bible, we can study to show ourselves “approved by God.” Or course, we find when we are in era too, and then corrections can be made. If we read the word of God, only then can we know if what our teachers and pastors are saying it right. Paul commended the Bereans act of checking up on him, checking up is a good thing. That’s one thing my pastor always reminded us to do: find out for yourself. If we know the word of God, by reading the word of God, detecting false teaching is easy, or easier.

The benefits of reading are unlimited. But, reading God’s word is the best. It washes our minds. Yes, perhaps we are brainwashed. But it is not by force of another, by collusion, nor by ones selfish agenda. We are washed in the Logos of God, by our personal choice and freedom. And the great thing is that it is in our Fathers will.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
Romans 12:2 NKJV

“… love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word.” Ephesians 5:25b-26 NLT

I’m sure you know, but to remind you and especially me. Who and or what is the word God? Read John 1:1 for the answer.
