Knowing God

Though I rarely read a book other than the Bible, I do read a few. Most often these books still are on biblical topics. Other than music, I've got a one track mind: knowing God. And, thankfully, music, in all forms can be used to glorify or worship God (there is a difference—listen to the words from your favorite music). Well, here I am side tracked, sorry. Before I buy anything, I usually peruse parts of the book to see if they are worth reading. I’m your typical guy, I read for information, NOT entertainment. Being this way, most often I read the end of the book first. If the writer’s conclusions or exhortations are strange or unbiblical, I leave the book alone. If they are correct, I buy it or mentally notate it for future use. I even did this with the bible. I read the ending several times as a kid,. It blew me away! Heaven’s the reward or the of punishment hell!? Both conclusions beg a question, why? Well, I could write all day just on that. Read the “Book” (the bible) and see why. Though difficult at times, it works on your soul! By the way, it’s the way know God, but only through His Spirit. If you are not reading the word as a Christian, you are not growing, you are in stasis*.  If you are a Christian and not doing the “Word,” we are self-deceived (ouch!), read James 1 near the end.

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12 NKJV

* sta·sis/ˈstāsis/

Noun:
.                         A period or state of inactivity or equilibrium.
(I looked it up to get it right)

21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
James 1:22-25 NKJV
