Gold, Diamonds, and Platinun

Gold! I've found gold! The funny thing was, it way lying right on the ground. The gold I’m talking about is worth more than diamonds, gold, or platinum. It’s the nuggets of truth right on the pages of scripture. Of course there are deeps truths and confusing things in scripture, especially in the prophecies. But, there are enough usable everyday truths lying right on the surface to bless and challenge us for a lifetime. Here is one: God looking for a man to stand in the gap for their brothers. I mention this verse because it’s in a hard sometimes confusing section of Ezekiel, and it’s was freshly in our thoughts from my last post. So let’s go mining!

Proverbs has gold everywhere! If you don’t know this or do this, here is a simple plan to let Proverbs water your soul. There are 31 chapters, read one everyday for the rest of you life. I have one with my cereal most everyday! It’s easier than it sounds and habit forming. Proverbs teach principles for everyday life especial in our relationships with people and God. But, these are not emphatic laws like the Ten Commandments. These are generalizational   truths. They are patterns, like the ones we find in science; they are the common outcomes to situations in life. These help us know what is pleasing to God in all relationship, and there circumstances. This is the pure wisdom God gave Solomon.

Today’s Proverbs are from chapter 28, obviously. And there are nuggets everywhere. I’ll leave you with one and it’s multifaceted like cut diamonds, and it’s sharp.

“Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper,
but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.
Blessed is the one who always trembles before God,
but whoever hardens their heart falls into trouble.”
Proverbs 28:13-14 NIV
